GIFT Cruise casts off on June 9
by Ed Progar
Cleveland-Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. The trees are in full leaf, the flowers and bushes are in bloom, the air is fresh with pollen and Lake Erie is quickly warming.
Right on cue, Mother Nature has once again set the stage for the kick-off event of summer, the 24th annual Cleveland GIFT Cruise on the Goodtime III, sponsored this year by Twist Social Club. Preparations are nearly complete for what has become one of the premier events on the Northeast Ohio LGBT community's summer calendar, as evidenced by the attendance of over 600 guests in each of the last two years.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 9, when, for the 24th consecutive year, hundreds of Northeast Ohioans and out of town visitors will board the tri-level Goodtime III to enjoy a 21⁄2 hour sunset journey down the Cuyahoga
River and along the shore of Lake Erie. Boarding begins at the 9th Street Pier (behind the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) at 7 pm, and the ship leaves at 7:30 pm sharp, rain or shine.
The Goodtime III-our private cruise ship for the past 23 years-offers three levels on which to spend the evening, each with its own distinct atmosphere. Enjoy live performances by the incomparable Lounge Kitty along with a beverage or snack on the enclosed lower deck. Dance to your favorite tracks punched up by the house DJ on the second level. Or mix and mingle while communing with nature as you enjoy the beautiful sunset and starlit evening from the open-air upper deck. Cash bars are located on all three levels.
Advance tickets will be available for $20 (cash) at various Cleveland and Akron establishments, and for $25 (cash) at the dock on the day of the
cruise, on a first come, first served basis until we reach full capacity..
A portion of this year's proceeds will be donated to the Cleveland LGBT Center, Malachi House and the AIDS Taskforce of Cleveland.
Don't take the chance of missing the boat, buy your tickets early and enjoy a $5 discount! A complete list of sales locations may be found by visiting our web site at www.clevelandgift.org and clicking on the "Cruise" button. Information is also available by calling 216749-2152.
The GIFT Cruise is affiliated with the Cleveland Gay-Lesbian Invitational Fellowship Bowling Tournament, which will be held the weekend of June 8 10, at Freeway Lanes of Parma. ✓
Ed Progar is the director of the 24th annual GIFT Cruise.

A good change is coming
To the Editors:
Just happened to pick up the Gay Peoples Chronicle while eating at the Melt in Lakewood today. It was great to read the note about Brian DeWitt and Douglas Braun [May 4].
Congratulations! What a wonderful day for all gay people to see this type
of notation in the paper. Not to mention hearing President Obama today giving support to the gay community concerning marriage.
There is a change coming and it is a good thing.
